Free music player and organizer

Strawberry Music Player is a multimedia application from Ismael Carrea. As it says on the tin, it is a music player that provides a smooth and convenient way to list your favorite tracks, artists, and albums. However, while it is described as a music player, this free audio app also comes with numerous advanced features that let you manage your music collection.

Strawberry Music Player comes with 64-bit and 32-bit versions. However, the download is slightly chunky and triggers Window's SmartScreen Defender when launched as it is unsigned. Users will also find the app's interface old-fashioned and text-heavy.

What is Strawberry Music Player?

Strawberry Music Player is an easy-to-use music player and collection organizer aimed at music collectors and audiophiles. With it, you can, of course, play music. Like other respectable music players, it lets you shuffle, skip, queue, and play music. You can also create playlists from tracks that you are currently playing.  The list is created from your files, which means you can also organize your albums, artists, and favorite tunes.

Aside from playing and organizing your audio files, the app offers other nifty features. In the Settings section, you can create covers or grab those already available for the albums and songs. Moreover, you can choose the sources that can display the lyrics. Furthermore, it allows you to edit the tag for your tracks. You only need to access the Edit Track Information from the context menu.

This music player is a fork of the Clementine Music Player, which, in turn, is a fork of Amarok. This means it has a strong Linux heritage, which is unique as far as media players are concerned. Although, the file size is chunky, and the interface is outdated and very text-heavy. Finally, the app is strictly read-only, meaning it can only play the music but not update or change it.

Should you download it?

In conclusion, Strawberry Music Player is a good player and music organizer. It does what it promises to do and then gets out of your way. It is also user-friendly, allowing you to organize and edit your music files. Although, cataloging large music collections over a network can be pretty slow. Moreover, you cannot play any music while cataloging is in progress.
